Lazy Girl’s Guide to Lipstick | The Essentials

DSC02631C

Lipsticks these days have no boundaries what so ever, when it comes to colour, finish and lasting power. Basically, the possibilities are endless. But for a girl who is just staring her collection or for someone who just doesn’t even know where to begin exploring all the lipstick options in the market, this post just might give you a head start!

For a girl/boy starting out, I have narrowed it down to 4 types of lip colors that are most desirable in the market(from research).

1.) Nudes

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche in Beige Sienna. I got this fairly recently and I made a post about it too! (LINK) The finish of this nude is quite sheer. I usually like pairing this with a heavy or a tad bit drying lipliner so the combo is a long wearing and comfortable lippie.

Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lipstick in Lychee Parfait. This shade was literally my go to lipstick in my last term in Uni. It is just such a wearable nude(like every nude) and it is just so comfortable. Its finish was not a matter but not a gloss or a lustre either. I just can’t describe it! You just have to know that it is so darn great!

MAC Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy. This has got to be my favorite matte lipstick to date. Not only is it my favorite shade(nude) and it is matte but it is very comfortable to wear. Its the type of shade that I would still wear even if I was in my 40’s. I just love it so much that I am never letting go of it.

2.) Plums

Wet n’ Wild Silk Finish in Just Garnet. This is quite the shade for a more daring foe. It is a demi-matte rasberry/berry colored lipstick. I definitely wouldn’t wear this on the everyday. But it definitely can be someone’s cup of tea.

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche in Pearly Flirty Berry. This is definitely one of my comfortable plums. It is the same formula as the Beige Sienna nude I talked about earlier. It is a sheer finish. Its the type of shade that you can just slap on with some mascara and hurry out the front door.

3.) Reds

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Candy Apple. This was actually my very first red lipstick when I first started my love for makeup. It is definitely a more moist finish than other reds in the market but it is just as vivid. The finish makes it very suitable to wear on a nice summer outing.

Pink Sugar HD Lipstick in
Va Va Voom. This brand is Philippine-made and I think they do

such good quality products that you can literally put beside world renowned brands and see no difference. They are seriously stepping up their game. This red is so vibrant. Its quite hard to believe that this wears so well with what price I got it in!

4.) Pinks

Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 106. Okay, so the world already knows how well Rimmel London pulls off a good lip. But I didn’t know that they can ace a super vivid shade like this! It is definitely what we all call a ‘hot pink’ with a rather blue undertone.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme in Antwerp. NYX have a billion shades in their lip creme collection and this has to be the cutest pink they have. It is definitely similar too other pinks but the thing that separates this from others is its comfortable wear throughout the day.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 103. This is yet another Rimmel London lipstick. But this is more of a nude with a stumble pink undertone to it. This was definitely one of my favorite shades the time I got this and still sort of is!

L’Oreal Paris Moist Matte in Dewy Beige. This type of pink I can say is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea but it is one for those who prefer a more iridescent pink. Though its is a bit sheer and easy to wear but I personally think this isn’t for every skin tone. But at the end of the day, YOU DO YOU!

Wet N’ Wild Lipsticks | First Impressions

Wet N’ Wild lipsticks are notoriously known to be very budget friendly, great quality and available in many colors. Did this bunch live up to all that hype?

I got these Wet N’ Wild Silk Finish Lipsticks as a set through a LIP Year Sale on BeautyMNL.com last February as I was searching for the perfect bright red lipstick as one does. This set of three come from the Silk Finish Collection. And it is pretty silky all right!

I honestly didn’t have high hopes for the Berry Frost shade because light pink hues aren’t really my cup of tea. But the other two were definitely my taste. Lets just say that these two shades, Hot Red and Just Garnet felt like it costed more that just P45.00($0.99).

Skipping the Berry Frost shade, the shade Hot Red was definitely one of the better reds of my purchase. It wasn’t too sheer or opaque. For the record, it was just right! As for the shade Just Garnet, I really liked this one because of its mauve-y grape shade. It reminds me of a less intense Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in 107, which I don’t mind collecting more of.

As for the packaging, just your standard, nothing innovative or flashy. Just the usual drugstore see through plastic cap. But the characteristic-scientific word! that differs this from the my previous review on another drugstore lipstick was that it didn’t have any strong clay smell to it, which made it much more bearable to wear.

Final Thoughts? Wet n’ Wild does a great job of providing products on the cheaper end of the spectrum without discounting so much on quality.
